Swell Artist Collective is an open studio and Art Gallery located in Boise's historic downtown. Formed in November of 2015 and managed by artists Noble Hardesty, Stuart Holland, and Cody Rutty, Swell is located on the lower level of the Old Mercantile Building in Boise's BoDo district.

By combining their individual artistic practices and ideas into a common space, the artists' mission revolves around creating a vibrant studio and gallery environment that is open to the public and intent on helping bolster the community's rapidly-growing arts culture. Swell will be host to both First Thursday and independently organized artistic events while maintaining hours of operation during which people can visit.

Tony Rios

Swell Artist Collective's Tony Rios was born in Los Angels, CA and grew up in South San Gabriel watching his mother paint and knew with certainty that painting was what he wanted to do. Well... that and play with Hot Wheels. And so now that is exactly what he does. He paints and collects toys.

Rios very rarely paints with an agenda, and doesn’t attempt to explain his work, he believes that art can have more than one meaning, that it is subjective and views differ from one person to the next. So he leaves it to the viewer to go away with what ever the images mean to them. Music plays an influential part in his creations, inspiring both images and concepts.

In addition to painting, Rios is an accomplished architectural bronze artist who also creates custom made ceramic tile back splashes, hotel lobby floors and single field tile. He attended the University of Kansas in 77, Northern Arizona University in 82, Pasadena City College 85-86, Pasadena art Center College of Design 86-89, majoring in illustration, and also taught at the Utah Valley State College in 99 teaching drawing, figure drawing, watercolor and understanding materials. His work can be seen across the United States from Mexico to Wyoming and as far East as New York. Rios now lives in Idaho
